Yesterday, our science students got to experiment with the process of nucleation.

The experiment looks at how the carbon dioxide (CO2) in soda attaches to pits and spaces in objects, and with the porous shell of a Mentos having many, this creates a combustion reaction.

Due to the demonstrative aspect of the experiment, the assessment is based on how the students research, observe and come to scientific conclusions throughout the process.

Although this was all completed for very serious scientific research and assessment findings, we think the real fun came down to who could create the biggest soda combustion, as you can tell from the giant smiles in the photos below.
