The Oakleigh Grammar Lighthouse Continues to Shine

FranklinCovey’s Leader in Me (LiM) is an evidence-based, comprehensive-school improvement model. It was developed in partnership with educators—that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.

Lighthouse Certification is a highly-regarded standard set by FranklinCovey that is attainable by every Leader in Me school. As it is a significant benchmark, applying for this certification typically occurs four to five years after a school begins the Leader in Me process.

For Oakleigh Grammar, re-certification of our Lighthouse status is a huge honor.  There is incredible commitment and passion from School’s dedicated staff to consistently strengthen their own knowledge and application of The 7 Habits to be best placed to guide our students to do the same.

We have seen amazing results from a targeted approach to student goal setting on an individual level and as part of a classroom community.  With the introduction of student accountability partners and a weekly intentional reflection on goals and goal tracking, student understanding of the impact of setting and tracking goals has vastly developed.

Student voice is strong and proud.  A Year 2 student says “If I love something, or know there is a way I can change something, I know I can use my habits and I trust that my teachers will make sure my message is heard.”

A student in Year 4 has said “When one voice is quiet but the message is important, I know that by being in charge of myself, I can use Habit 8 and I can speak for my peers and I can give them courage to use their voice.”

These are the voices of our future leaders and we are excited to see how their life journey will be positively influenced by The Leader in Me at Oakleigh Grammar.
