Career. It’s more than just a Job.

We are currently midway through National Careers Week Australia, an annual event to celebrate careers, career development and career development practitioners. This event is critical for our students to start preparing them for life beyond school, and to help them make better decisions about their learning, training and work pathway. As a result of Covid-19, this year’s event is happening entirely online.

The Oakleigh Grammar Careers Department has been working hard remotely to offer aplenty of assistance to our students. As part of National Careers Week Australia, Mrs Mascaro collaborated with Deakin University to organise a LIVE Careers Webinar for our Year 11 students. Luke Ridgwell and Allison Montano presented an informative webinar providing insights into Deakin University, its courses, facilities, career industry pathways, TAFE partners, and most importantly invaluable advice to our students. It was a great remote learning opportunity for our students via Microsoft Teams and as Deakin kindly gave us permission to record the webinar, it is now available for all students and the Oakleigh Grammar community to view at any time, one of the many advantages to remote learning. You can watch the webinar here.

National Careers Week Australia highlights the value of continually developing your career, and the need for ongoing reskilling and upskilling. This year’s occurrences with Covid-19 emphasises that there will always be uncertainty in our nature of work, and that by regularly improving our skills and thinking about our future career can allow our students to come through ambiguous times in a stronger position.
