At Oakleigh Grammar, we believe that supporting our community and helping those in need are essential parts of developing compassionate, responsible and caring young people. Through fundraising initiatives, charitable appeals and community events, our students learn the importance of generosity, empathy and social responsibility. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. By working together, we strengthen our school community while encouraging our students to become active citizens who care for others.
On Friday 23 October, Oakleigh Grammar celebrated its annual Loud Shirt Day, a national fundraising campaign that supports deaf and hard-of-hearing children. Funds raised help provide essential early intervention services, specialist audiology, listening and spoken language therapy, and support for families.
Our school community, from the ELC through to the Senior School, embraced Loud Shirt Day by wearing bright and colourful shirts to school. Students and staff joined in the fun and showed their support for this important cause by making a gold coin donation. Through this simple gesture, our Oakleigh Grammar community helped raise awareness and support for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families.
On Friday 30 October, Oakleigh Grammar celebrated World Teachers’ Day, recognising the incredible contribution teachers make to the lives of children and young people every day. Teachers inspire curiosity, encourage personal growth, provide guidance and support, and help students discover their potential. To express our appreciation, Oakleigh Grammar students shared their gratitude by presenting mini cupcakes to all staff. This thoughtful gesture was a lovely way to acknowledge the dedication, care and commitment of our teachers and staff, who work tirelessly to support our students’ learning, wellbeing and development.
As the festive season approaches, Oakleigh Grammar is once again supporting the Greek Welfare Centre Christmas Appeal, reminding us of the importance of looking beyond our own celebrations and extending a helping hand to families experiencing hardship.
We are collecting non-perishable food items to help provide practical support to families in need during this special time of year. We encourage our school community to contribute generously and help bring comfort and joy to those who may be facing difficult circumstances. Students can deliver their donations to their Home Group Teacher, the Front Office or Mrs Spanos’ Office by Friday 23 November. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for our students to put the values of kindness, compassion and generosity into action, demonstrating that the true spirit of Christmas lies in caring for others and sharing what we can.
At Oakleigh Grammar, making a difference is about more than fundraising. It is about nurturing a culture of care, respect, generosity and community spirit. Whether wearing a colourful shirt for a worthy cause, expressing appreciation for our teachers or donating food to support families in need, every act of kindness matters.
We thank our students, families and staff for their ongoing generosity, enthusiasm and commitment to these initiatives. Together, we continue to demonstrate that when a community comes together with compassion and a shared purpose, even the smallest actions can create a lasting and positive impact.
