Oakleigh Grammar is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Year 6 and Year 8 students who participated in the 2026 Australian-Hellenic Memorial Student Competition, organised by the Australian Hellenic Memorial Foundation.
Students from Year 6 Pathway I and II and Year 8 Pathway I demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of Greece’s significant role in World War II. The annual competition encourages students to explore important historical events, including the Greek Campaign, the involvement of the ANZACs in Greece and the Battle of Crete, while reflecting on the shared history and enduring connections between Greece and Australia.
Open to Victorian schools where Greek is taught, the competition provides students from Year 1 to Year 12 with a valuable opportunity to deepen their historical knowledge, celebrate their cultural heritage and recognise the sacrifices and contributions of those who served during the war.
We are delighted to announce the following Oakleigh Grammar students as recipients of awards in the 2026 competition:
Year 7–Year 9 Category
First Award: Ashley Tselios (Year 8)
Second Award: Alexandra Tochovitis (Year 8)
Encouragement Award: Panagiotis Mavroidakos (Year 8)
Encouragement Award: Anatalia Vlahos (Year 8)
Year 4–Year 6 Category
Third Award: Samantha Kehaidis (Year 6)
These wonderful results reflect our students’ dedication to learning about history and their engagement with the important historical and cultural connections between Greece and Australia.
Congratulations to all our students on their outstanding achievements! We are very proud of their efforts and thank the Australian Hellenic Memorial Foundation for providing students with this meaningful opportunity to learn about and honour our shared history.
