Oakleigh Grammar has a number of non-English speaking students who integrate well in our School Community with assistance from a number of our teaching staff. Our international students are able to practise their English speaking and writing skills through full immersion.

Our School is committed to supporting and integrating all of our students who speak English as an Additional Language, or other languages into meaningful learning programs through English-medium approaches. It is important for these students both educationally and emotionally to settle into Oakleigh Grammar, as we integrate them into our learning community.

The goals for students learning English as an Additional Language are the same as those of their English-speaking peers. However, the way that they reach these goals are often different. These students require additional English language support, extra time to complete activities, support and varied exposure to English in a range of contexts before traditional assessment is entirely appropriate.

Our short-term study tours offer a deep dive into Australian culture, language, and school life. Each itinerary blends classroom experiences with hands-on excursions, such as visits to Melbourne’s cultural landmarks and local community projects.

Students improve their English in real-world settings while making friends from across the globe. Tours are fully escorted, with flexible durations ranging from one to ten weeks.

Short Study Tour places are extremely limited based on year-level capacity - please contact Samantha Zhang at shortstudy@oakleighgrammar.vic.edu.au for more information.

We partner with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to place you with caring, background-checked host families.

Living in an Australian home accelerates language learning and provides authentic insights into daily life.

Our dedicated welfare team offers 24/7 support— organising orientation, checking in regularly, and coordinating any extra help you need. You’ll always have a local contact to turn to, ensuring your time here is safe, enjoyable, and enriching.
