Oakleigh Grammar Students Attend the Dormition of the Theotokos

At Oakleigh Grammar, faith and culture go hand in hand, providing our students with opportunities to connect with their heritage, traditions and spiritual identity. Through participation in important religious and cultural celebrations, our students develop a deeper appreciation of the traditions that have shaped our community and continue to bring generations together.

15 August is one of the most significant days in the Greek Orthodox calendar, when the Orthodox Church commemorates the Dormition of the Theotokos, meaning the Falling Asleep of the Mother of God. This special feast is celebrated throughout Greece and across Orthodox communities around the world, bringing families and communities together in prayer and celebration.

In honour of this important occasion, Oakleigh Grammar students were invited to attend the Divine Liturgy at the Parish of Saints Anargiri in Oakleigh on Saturday 15 August 2026. It was wonderful to see students from across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools come together to represent Oakleigh Grammar and participate respectfully in this significant celebration of faith.

The presence of our students across all year levels was a wonderful reflection of the strong connection between our School and the wider Greek Orthodox community. Their participation demonstrated not only their respect for an important religious tradition, but also their pride in being part of a community that values faith, culture and belonging.

Adding to the beauty and solemnity of the occasion was the Byzantine Choir, whose traditional hymns and chants contributed to the spiritual atmosphere of the Divine Liturgy.

We congratulate all the Oakleigh Grammar students who attended and represented our School with such pride, respect and enthusiasm. Their participation is a wonderful example of how faith, culture and community continue to come together at Oakleigh Grammar.
