Oakleigh Grammar is proud to be a Global Member school of Round Square - an international community of over 250 schools across 50 countries that collaborate in experiential learning and character education.
Round Square began as a collaboration among eight different schools across Europe and North America who held a steadfast commitment to character and values-based education.
Its name stems from the building which the first Round Square conference took place in 1967: the Round Square at Gordonstoun.
Over sixty years later, Round Square is made up of over 250 schools from 50 different countries spanning 6 continents. Every Round Square school shares a commitment to experiential learning and character education.
At Oakleigh Grammar we proudly implement the Round Square IDEALs - Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service - into every aspect of our education approach.
The IDEALs are underpinned by twelve Discoveries that students explore throughout their learning journey: inquisitiveness, tenacity, courage, compassion, inventiveness, ability to solve problems, self-awareness, sense of responsibility, appreciation of diversity, commitment to sustainability, communication and team-working skills.
Together the IDEALs and Discoveries make up the Round Square Discovery Framework, helping to foster a holistic learning environment where students develop into well-rounded, responsible global citizens.
All of our academic and co-curricular programs encourage students to engage with diverse cultures, participate in democratic processes, champion sustainability, embark on adventurous challenges, cultivate leadership skills, and commit to serving their communities.
By integrating these IDEALS, we ensure that our students are equipped with the values, skills, and perspectives needed to navigate and contribute positively to an interconnected world.
