Leading edge learning

Our child-centred approach ensures every student is encouraged to perform at their best and continually improve, whether they are high performing, experience learning challenges, or fall somewhere in between.

Our proprietary Junior School Quartet underpins learning from the ELC to Year 5 following a path through four phases: Explore, Engage, Explain and Elaborate and ensures a smooth transition throughout the Junior School years.

In the Middle School the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) develops creative, critical and reflective thinking. The MYP develops international mindedness, leadership, purpose and a spirit of service to others.

Senior School students undertake the VCE, and are given the opportunity to complete extension studies. Offering up to 20 subjects, capable students can opt to complete VCE units from Year 10. Demonstrating leadership is the responsibility of all Senior students as they become role models to their younger peers.

We boast a multicultural environment where a zest for life is encouraged, good citizenship is celebrated and academic scholarship is our mainstay.

Specialist support

Catering for the diverse educational needs of our students.

Our Learning Enhancement Department provides specialised support for individual students. Oakleigh Grammar is committed to delivering programs, which meet the needs of the child – from those who may require learning intervention and classroom support to those who show a need for extension and stimulation.

Learning Enhancement assessments identify the individual needs of each student, allowing specific skills to be targeted using evidence based strategies, programs and interventions.

Our highly successful Arrowsmith program is a specialised offering addressing dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, auditory processing disorder, and short/long term visual memory, through cognitive development. The ultimate aim is to integrate students into mainstream learning.

A dedicated co-educational school

We harness the joy of learning and growing together.

At Oakleigh Grammar, we endorse the principle of boys and girls developing reciprocal respect and understanding for each other. Working and learning collaboratively in both academic and co-curricular activities, most authentically reflects the wider world in which they will ultimately dwell.

The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, advocated co-education, for it promotes “a feeling of comradeship”, of trust, confidence, respect and cooperation.

Bus 2

Choose drop-offs, pick-ups, or both, for whichever days of the week suit your family. We have a fleet of 11 buses that travel all over Melbourne.

Why Oakleigh Grammar’s Early Learning Centre?

Our Approach

Our Early Learning Centre encourages a child’s natural curiosity and creativity, whilst also ‘empowering young minds’. The curriculum is flexible and emerges from children’s ideas, thoughts, and observations, with emphasis on learning from their surroundings.

The ELC is an integral part of the Junior School, and is the focus of the first phase in our proprietary Junior School Quartet Learning Model, setting students up for a smooth transition to Prep and beyond.

The Key Principles

Children actively engage in the learning process, possessing the potential and interest to steer their learning. Their environment, enriched with tactile, visual, and auditory experiences, plays a pivotal role.

Collaboration among teachers, parents, and children fosters independent thinking in a respectful context. Diverse forms of expression, like drawing, construction, and play, are pivotal in children’s learning.

This approach underpins Oakleigh Grammar’s  ELC Curriculum, preparing students well for “The Leader in Me” program and reinforcing the Junior School curriculum.

K4 to Prep Transition Program

Oakleigh Grammar ELC teachers work collaboratively to prepare our students to be school-ready. We offer a more structured learning program in our K4 group which includes, music, dance, language, science, and English, streamlining the students’ progress to Prep.

This innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education lays the foundation for learning. Students who attend our ELC are immersed in our School’s educational programs, culture, and community. We ensure the transition to the early years of Junior School is developed through an enhanced Prep readiness and transition program, which occurs throughout the 4-year-old ELC school year.

This program aims to ensure that each child is confident and equipped to commence this next step in their learning journey. ELC students gain direct entry into Prep so the transition is seamless.
