One School, One Journey

Our Teaching and Learning Model is unique to Oakleigh Grammar - research and evidence driven school-wide method that turns evidence into action aligning every lesson, unit, and learning interaction to one goal: improved student outcomes.

Whether it's the play-based Reggio Emilia approach in the ELC, the learning foundations established in the Junior School with the Quartet Model, the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in our Middle School or VCE in the Senior School, we always place our students at the very centre of teaching and learning.

Oakleigh Grammar Teaching and Learning Model

The Oakleigh Grammar Teaching and Learning Model (TLM) is a “method not just a model”: this is an everyday practice, used from macro planning to micro teaching moves

Student-centred by design with an emphasis on whole-community alignment, the Oakleigh Grammar TLM is explicitly designed to support collaboration between leaders, teachers, students, and parents.

The 4-phase model features three key elements in each phase:

  • Connect
  • Purposeful Teaching
  • Active Learning
  • Reflect

  • Act

This involves students and teachers evaluating the learning and instruction based on the lesson learning intention and success criteria, aiding students in refining their skills and understanding, while acting on this feedback to improve their learning.
