The CSIRO recently published that balloons are part of the top three most harmful pollutants threatening marine wildlife. Everyday balloons are released or accidentally escape from outdoor events, where they almost definitely end up in waterways and the ocean, and can be mistaken by wildlife for food.
Melbourne Zoo are supporting this initiative with their campaign, ‘When balloons fly, seabirds die’. The Year 5s took action at Melbourne Zoo, and Jarred signed the pledge to blow bubbles instead of balloons at all outdoor events on behalf of OG. Look out for OG supporting this at future functions and events.
