Our Year 8 Oakleigh Grammar students were one of the first student groups in Australia to visit Body Worlds Vital, at the Melbourne Showgrounds in Flemington on Friday.
The exhibition has recently moved to Australia and has been toured in over 26 countries worldwide, attracting over 46 million visitors globally. Fortunately, our Year 8 students also got to experience the unique anatomical exhibition featuring real human bodies and organs, which have been preserved using the process of Plastination.
Students and teachers were left captivated, mesmerised and inspired by the bodies on display in the exhibition. After learning about Human Body Systems throughout Term 3, students were amazed as they actually got to see first-hand the parts of the human digestive system, circulatory system, nervous system, excretory system, respiratory system, muscular system and skeletal system, and how they all connect and work together to make us human!
The exhibition had a focus on Vitality and Health, also contrasting various healthy and diseased organs to emphasise the importance of looking after our bodies, which got students thinking about the effects of lifestyle choices on the body.
All in all, it was a fascinating excursion and a once-in-a-lifetime experience that left everyone involved feeling inspired with the realisation of just how much we take our bodies for granted.
