Oakleigh Grammar have been successful in obtaining a Sustainable Schools Project grant from the Federal Government. The Government were offering 37 Primary Schools in the Higgins electorate grants, to plant Indigenous vegetation, lucky us!
This is a detailed process, and involves Year 4 students working alongside the Year 5 Environmental Leaders to bring the project to fruition. Through their Inquiry Units, the students will drive the initiative, and be involved in the planning, purchasing and development of the garden.
We’re currently in the planning stage where the site selected has been affectionately named ‘The Smiling Garden’ and will be a place of peace, reflection and symbolism.
Planted with burgundy, gold and white indigenous plant species to represent our School, indigenous symbols and special messages in our School languages of Greek, English and Mandarin, it will surely become a treasured feature of our grounds. Watch this space for future updates!
