Term 1 ended with a bang, as Oakleigh Grammar’s student/teacher Rock Band “Room 109” held their “Rock Against Cancer” gig to raise funds for Cancer Council Australia.
The group rocked the socks off their target of $500, raising a whopping $729.30! As the fundraiser coincided with “World’s Greatest Shave”, the highest individual donors received the privilege of shaving Mr. Gridley’s much-loved hair off on stage.
Both students and teachers turned the Conference Centre into a dancefloor as the gig turned out to be a huge hit. The band played seven rock classics, opening with Can’t Stop by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, My Own Worst Enemy by Lit, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous by Good Charlotte, Zombie by the Cranberries, Twist & Shout by The Beatles, Enter Sandman by Metallica and finishing off with Thunderstruck by AC/DC, and for some of our students it was their first introduction to some of these bands and this genre.
A huge thank you to everyone for their generous donations towards a very worthy cause and for supporting the event.
