Curriculum Overview

Oakleigh Grammar prides itself on taking students on a positive and productive learning journey, that caters to individuals’ needs at different developmental stages.

Early Learning Centre

In the safe, stimulating environment of the Early Learning Centre (ELC), two to five year olds gain self confidence and socialisation skills that prepare them to be eager, receptive and self-motivated children. The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy focussed on preschool and primary education. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children through a self-guided curriculum.

Junior School

Vital literacy and numeracy foundations are the focus in the Junior School. The curriculum helps students develop both a sense of personal identity and an awareness of the world around them. The combination of explicit teaching and inquiry-based learning provides students with the benefits of both curriculum designs.  All curriculum documents are guided by the Australian Curriculum.

Middle School

In the Middle School, students are emerging as thinking global citizens, developing an independence of mind and interests. The Middle Years Program (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) is used to deliver the prescribed Australian Curriculum. Students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to become life-long learners.

Senior School

The Senior School provides various pathways to future destinations. Students embark on the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) in their preferred subjects and are assisted to gain entry into their chosen field of employment or further education. The Careers Department assists students in shaping their final years of secondary study to compliment their career ambitions.

The learning journey of each child is unique and the School is committed to ensuring that every child is treated as an individual in meeting the challenges initiated by their ability and interests.

Christian faith and culture underpin our learning journey throughout all stages of schooling at Oakleigh Grammar.
