5 easy ways to stay active as alumni

As the Oakleigh Grammar community continues to expand, it’s becoming increasingly important to stay active within that community even after you leave the school. The benefits are mutual. We appreciate alumni from various professions coming back and inspiring our current students to work hard towards success. In the same respect, alumni are provided with invaluable networking opportunities when they stay in touch with us.

This doesn’t mean you have to dedicate a huge chunk of your time to being an active member. Once you leave school, time continues to be consumed by all aspects of your life – whether it be university, work, family or even trying to stay active at the gym! We know how scarce your time is, so we’ve come up with a list of ways that you can stay active within the Oakleigh Grammar community that won’t take up too much of your time.

1. Connect on Facebook
We’ve established various channels of communication on Facebook that allow you to stay up to date with what’s going on in the Oakleigh Grammar Community.

Our general Oakleigh Grammar Facebook Page consists of our latest news and events. Check it out here: www.facebook.com/oakleighgrammar

Our Alumni Facebook Page contains updates on the latest alumni related news and events. Check it out here: www.facebook.com/OGAlumni/

Our Alumni Facebook Group is different to the Alumni Facebook Page as it provides networking opportunities and a great forum for you to post your own content – whether it be a link to your business’ website, a public event or an interesting article you believe is relevant to other Oakleigh Grammar Alumni. It is also a great space for connecting with Oakleigh Grammar Staff and giving your opinion on alumni events, activities and communications. You may even re-connect with an old school mate that you haven’t seen in many years! Check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OakleighGrammarAlumni/?ref=bookmarks

2. Share your story
We love hearing about our past students’ success, and are always keen to share your stories not only within our community but with the wider community also. All it takes is 10 minutes of your time to fill out a questionnaire, with the potential of an extra 10-15 minutes to answer some follow-up questions. That’s a maximum of 30 minutes to make an invaluable contribution to the school community. To share your story, head here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MWMVQ5G

3. Attend events
Whether it’s an alumni reunion or a general school event such as a Greek Tavern Night or Trivia Night, we’re always excited to catch up with our past students at events. Choose one or two events that appeal to you and come along to reconnect with your alma mater! Our long serving staff regularly attend these events, which gives you the perfect opportunity to catch up and reminisce in a relaxed environment. Details of such events are regularly posted on our Facebook pages, so you’ll always be in the loop.

4. Round up your friends
It’s true what they say about safety in numbers. We understand that re-connecting with your school or attending school events can be daunting, especially if you do it alone! Encourage those school friends that you’ve stayed in touch with over the years to connect to the school and attend events with you.

5. Sign up for the Alumni Newsletter
Our regular Alumni Newsletter goes out once a month and contains all the latest alumni and school news and events. It’s an effortless way to make sure you’re kept up to date and it takes less than a minute to subscribe and read each issue. To subscribe, head to http://www.oakleighgrammar.vic.edu.au/subscribe-to-alumni-newsletter/
